Support groups provide a place for women to work on their healing and growth in the context of community. Women have the opportunity to share their stories and feel their connections with their "sisters", they realize they are not alone in their worries and their desires. Women help each other to feel connected, to develop self-compassion and self-care, and to hold the vision for what's possible for each woman in the group.
As women, we face a lot of pressure to sacrifice ourselves in the service of others: to sacrifice our identities, our careers, our needs and longings, even our personal health and well-being. Sometimes this self-sacrifice becomes a habit. Forging bonds with other women in a support group can help women become warriors on their own behalf.
Every woman's way of being a warrior in the world is unique. One beautiful gift of a support group is that women learn multiple and varied ways they can take a stand for themselves in their lives, and they learn they become even stronger by relying on others.
